See Your Child Off To School with Good Vision

Well, the summer's end is near. Moms and dads everywhere are going shopping for bags and books, making sure their children have everything they need for the academic year. This is the perfect opportunity to take your son or daughter to an eye exam, if you haven't already covered that base.

Most progress at school is accomplished visually. Yet interestingly, in spite of this strong correlation between vision and learning, many parents seem to be unaware of this, and as a result, don't get their child's eyes examined regularly. It's important to know that because vision in kids changes, regular eye exams are necessary for success at school.

Children have a truly impressive ability to carry on, despite having an issue with their vision and they might not complain about any sort of trouble, because they don't even know they don't see the world the same way their peers do. As children go through school, it becomes extra important to keep an eye on their eyesight. Some warning symptoms include not properly seeing numbers or letters, watery eyes and frequent eye rubbing, extra close reading distance, avoiding small print, and head tilting.

Struggling to meet the demands schoolwork can make on a student's eyes can impact his or her performance. New educational technology, such as interactive whiteboards, can even heighten previously unknown vision issues. Without adequate vision, kids can be at a disadvantage not just in the classroom, but also mentally, physically and emotionally.

If your son or daughter has already been fitted for glasses, now is a good time to reassess the suitability of his or her current frames and maybe purchase your child new glasses to start off the new year. Even though your child might be able to see well wearing his or her old glasses, they might fit poorly or perhaps the optical centers of the lenses no longer align with the child's eyes due to normal development. The more your son or daughter enjoys wearing his/her glasses, the more they'll be worn!

So stop by to see us when you're getting your children prepared for their year. We'll help all the children we treat start the new school year with their vision in check.
